Learn How to Prioritise

Prioritising is something you need to do throughout the entire day. You need to learn how to recognise what’s more important. Base your priorities on the return on investment. Which one is worth more to you and the business? Use a daily schedule and write down everything that needs to be completed or worked on that day and then organise them based on how important the tasks are. Focus on meeting your goals and bringing in the money first, everything else can come second.

End Your Day at a Set Time Everyday

If you give yourself a daily deadline you are more likely to work efficiently. Deadlines can make you push harder and focus on your work. You know that when that time comes you can leave your desk and spend your time any way you please. If you have no set time to quit, you risk procrastinating which is a huge waste of time for everyone.

Deal With Short Tasks Immediately

If you are presented with a task that will take just one or two minutes you would be wise to tackle it immediately. There is no point adding it to your to do list, it will just make it look longer and add to your stress.  This is only good for small tasks like dealing with a quick enquiry from a client or sending a document to a colleague.

Keep Your Desk Free from Clutter

If you don’t need it that day then it shouldn’t be on your desk. Get into a routine of cleaning your desk at the end of each working day and have suitable storage for your paper work and other items. A cluttered desk won’t help you work efficiently. You should apply the same system to your email inbox too. Tidy up your files, store your emails and make use of the task list to stay organised and on track.

Create Your Own Work Schedule

You know when you work at your best so use that knowledge to your advantage. If you’re a morning person make sure you are at your desk and working on your most challenging jobs for the day. If you work better in the evening save your harder tasks until later on. Just remember to stick to your own routine and have a quitting time as we mentioned above.

Be Prepared

You never know what problems might come up in any working day. You must be prepared for some unforeseen circumstances to ensure your day isn’t ruined by them.
